Our
parish has served the Northwest side
of Chicago since 1914. Over
the years, we have watched the
Portage Park Community grow into a
vibrant diverse area, and our
liturgies provide worship
opportunities in both English and
Polish.
Saint
Pascal School is one of the best and
most affordable schools you will
find in our area. Our
Religious Education Program is
family-centered, encouraging study
and conversation about the Catholic
Faith at home and in monthly
gatherings.
On Saturday, May 18,
Francis Cardinal
George ordained
ten men for the
priesthood for the
Archdiocese of
Chicago. This
is a great day for
all Catholics across
the archdiocese but
it is a special
moment of
celebration for
Saint Pascal.
Two of these men
have connections
with our parish.
Rafal
Stecz
was born to a
farming family in a
small town in
Poland. Rafal
has two younger
sisters. Rafal
remembers feeling a
calling to the
priesthood as early
as his First Holy
Communion.
Faith is very
important to his
family, so he grew
up going to Mass
regularly and also
ministered as a
lector and altar
server.
Rafal attended minor
seminary in Poland
and was later
invited to continue
studying for the
priesthood in
Chicago.
Leaving his family
and homeland, Rafal
came to the United
States knowing no
one, nothing about
Chicago and very
little English.
He attended
Abromowicz Seminary,
where men from
Poland learn English
and the American
culture.
During this time,
Rafal became
familiar with Saint
Pascal and chose us
as his parish in his
newly adopted
country.
Since that time,
Rafal has been a
part of Saint
Pascal, often
serving at Mass and
assisting in many
ways. His
desire to serve God
and His people is
evident in all he
does. Best of
all, Rafal will
serve his first
assignment as
associate pastor at
Saint Pascal.
During his first
year, he will be
pursuing further
studies for his
License in Sacred
Theology.
Rafal will have a
Mass of Thanksgiving
on Sunday, May 19,
at 9:00 AM in
English and 12:00 PM
in Polish.
Kevin McCray
was born in Marion,
Indiana. He is
one of five children
and has an identical
twin. Born to
a Methodist family,
Kevin admits to
attending services
mainly because his
mother was the
church pianist.
He attended
Valparaiso
University and Ball
State University.
Moving to Chicago,
Kevin worked
successfully at the
headquarters of
Crate & Barrel for
twenty-one years as
an accountant and
merchandiser.
In the early 90's,
Kevin met Father
Paul Seaman when he
was pastor at Saint
Emeric in Country
Club Hills.
They became personal
friends and Father
Paul often told
Kevin, "You'd make a
good priest - and
you're not even
Catholic!"
After a visit to San
Damiano, the church
Saint Francis
rebuilt near Assisi,
Italy, Kevin became
Catholic in 2002.
Five years later,
Kevin entered
Mundelein Seminary.
Kevin's love for the
Church and his
special devotion to
Saint Francis guides
his ministry.
He will serve as
associate pastor at
Queen of Martyrs
Church on the South
Side.
Kevin will offer
Mass at Saint Pascal
on Saturday, June 22
at 4:00 PM.

Benefits of Registration at Saint Pascal
Keeping up
with a parish of 2000 families can be a
challenge! Saint Pascal also
serves many more families who are not
registered but who still come to us for
pastoral care. It is beneficial for both
the parish administration and the
individual families to be registered.
Registration is a confirmation of our
desire and commitment to give ourselves
to God and to one another in our
community of faith. Our weekly offering
is a prayer expressed through our
material gifts received through our
labors.
There are
many concerns and difficulties that may
make some reluctant to make this
commitment. Some of the benefits of
being registered include:
•
You will
receive important mailings at
Christmas, Easter and other times
throughout the year, keeping you up
to date on parish news.
•
Registration is proof of
membership in the Church.
•
Preference of choice of dates
for your Church celebrations.
•
Persons involved in lay ministry
should be registered in the
parish.
•
Parishes often request
verification of a person’s
status as a practicing Catholic,
attendance at Mass, etc., when a
person has been asked to be a
Godparent or sponsor. Without
registration, no such
verification can be given.
•
Regular mailings of envelopes
for Sunday offerings with name,
address, and a number assigned
to each registered parishioner
printed on each envelope. Your
offerings are confidentially
recorded by our staff for proof
of donations and tax purposes.
Without using envelopes, we
cannot verify your donations.
If you would like register, please stop
by our parish office and our staff will
be happy to assist you.
