Valerie Nelson is married to Bob, has three children and four grandchildren.  Her children attended St. Pascal School and Valerie was very active as a school parent and parishioner.  She has been part of the St. Pascal community for over thirty years.  Valerie had worked as a Chicago Public School educator for almost thirty years before her retirement.  She still found the time to assist with lunchroom duty for the school children, assist with leading the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, volunteer for different shifts for the annual carnival and Bingo nights.

Valerie has been a member of the Women’s Club for many years and has been recording secretary for the past two years.  She is also part of the Welcoming Committee for new parishioners to St. Pascal.  Valerie is known as the “taxi driver” to many.  She is always picking up or dropping off someone some place, whether it is to a parish function, the grocery store or a physician’s office for an appointment.  Along with her taxi skills, Valerie babysits for her grandchildren five days a week.  She also runs errands for neighbors who are shut-ins.  During St. Pascal’s Small Christian Community sessions, Valerie opens her home to host a group of twelve each week.

Valerie Nelson exemplifies being a true disciple.  For her loving, caring ways, her dedication to helping others less fortunate and for all she does for St. Pascal, we are honored to have Valerie “St. Pascal’s Woman of the Year for 2013”.

2012 Women of the year for Saint Pascal was Charlotte Sweeney.  Charlotte married Bob in 1965 and moved into the Saint Pascal Parish community in 1969. They have nine children and all of theom attended Saint Pascal School.  She has been involved with Saint Pascal since the beginning when joining the parish and continues to be.  She was on the planning committee for the 75th anniversary celebration for Saint Pascal and is currently on the planning committee for the 100th anniversary celebration.  She did the ground breaking formation of our Prayer Shawl Ministry.  Her work and devotion to Saint Pascal is never ending.  Congratulations Charlotte Sweeney!
